Reconditioned or Refurbished

What Does This Mean

Every day, millions of computers and customer electronics are returned to manufacturers across the US.  Whether due to functionality, or the thing was a leased item, these items still have some use and can propose an enormous value to eBay buyers.  However, it is significant to understand what Reconditioned or Refurbished computers means and how it influences the items you acquire.

1) Factory Reconditioned/Reconditioned

Items such as systems, printers, cell phones, and industrial utensils are often leased by companies in order to gain the machines they need at a poorer cost. This is done by replacing damaged components, frame, and testing the product completely.  Reconditioning has less to do with mend, than it does with replacing parts that usually need to be updated.

2) Factory Refurbished/Refurbished

Every year, over $100 Billion value of products is returned to big box retailers owed to either mark, or functionality issues.  This is ordinary with items such as computers, laptops, or other customer electronics.  This category of work has less to do with replacing worn out parts, and more to do with repairing damaged items. These returned items are often sold to exterior companies who take on the responsibility to resell them after repairing them.  This company then refurbishes the items by finding the difficulty with the item and repairing it and replacing damaged parts. 

What This All Means to You as a Purchaser

In short, this all means enormous savings for you the customer on items that will function like new.  It also mean the item may have a somewhat shorter life overall.  However, here are some instructions to help buyers be informed and shop carefully:

Teach yourself about the product you wish for - The more you know about a creation, the easier it is to evaluate new vs. reconditioned pricing, as well as what to expect from a product. 

Read the Entire Listing - Always seem on the page and among the fine print to see if the item is "Factory Reconditioned/Factory Refurbished" as this will end to they have been through a severe process before being listed. 

Advice says a lot - For items that are not Factory Reconditioned/Factory Refurbished computers, truthfully look at the sellers advice.  While all chief sellers will have some unhelpful feedback as a substance of course, look for comments concerning customer service.  Do they answer emails, resolve problems, or give brilliant tech support after the auction?

Look for Guarantees - Items refurbished or reconditioned by the factory or factory authorized center generally have some warranty attached.  Those repaired by self-governing facilities should offer at least a 15 day warranty. Often 30 days is normal, and is sufficient time to decide if an item will work dependably.  In addition, most errors will happen within the first 30 days if they happen at all.
